The renovation of Building 914 at Kirtland Air Force Base supported the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics (SAF/AQL) operations after its assignment to the organization in 2022. Originally constructed in 1970, the facility had previously functioned as a testing and laboratory support space for the Air Force Research Laboratory. However, its existing layout did not align with the operational needs of SAF/AQL and failed to meet essential security requirements.

The project involved developing a complete construction-ready design and specifications for renovating the building’s first floor, along with construction phase services. Office spaces were reorganized to improve functionality, and first-floor restrooms were upgraded with new fixtures. Interior finishes in both the east and west stairwells were refreshed, and laboratory spaces underwent substantial renovations. The project also introduced new floor, wall, and ceiling finishes to improve the overall interior environment.

Security upgrades were incorporated to meet ICD 705 standards, addressing compliance requirements. Electrical and communications systems were redesigned to support the building’s new layout. HVAC systems were adjusted to accommodate the revised room arrangements, optimizing performance. Asbestos abatement was carried out to address safety concerns, and a bid option was also included for the potential replacement of the existing EPDM roof.

The renovation transformed Building 914 into a facility that met SAF/AQL’s operational and security needs, improving both its infrastructure and functionality.
