Kenall was contracted by the USACE, Fort Worth District to create a Design-Build Request for Proposal for the renovation of Building 6426, Hangar 3, at Barksdale Air Force Base. The project aimed to deliver a fully functional facility aligned with Unified Facilities Criteria and Air Force design standards. The hangar, originally constructed in 1935 from masonry, concrete, and steel, featured approximately 28,000 SF of interior space with a combination of wood, steel, and concrete flooring. Despite previous renovations, a structural evaluation and code review were necessary to determine whether the wood components could be retained or needed replacement.
Kenall’s scope of work included project management, planimetric and utility surveys, structural analysis, and preparation of all Design-Build RFP submissions—draft, final, and corrected final versions. Additional tasks included construction cost estimation, asbestos/lead/HTRW survey verifications and abatements, value engineering study support, preservation of historical elements, storm drainage and pollution prevention planning, and addressing bidder inquiries and Requests for Information (RFIs).
