Kenall played a key role in the renovation of the Louis Armstrong International Airport (MSY), which underwent extensive upgrades in preparation for the 2013 Superbowl event. These renovations included terminal improvements, the addition of new terminals and parking garages, as well as runway extensions.

Kenall provided geotechnical services, focusing on Material Testing and Inspection in accordance with Advisory Circular (AC 150/5370-12A) standards for Quality Control of Construction on Airport Grant Projects. The specific services performed included:

  • Field inspections of concrete.
  • Inspection of welding and bolts, encompassing visual inspections of steel and welding, as well as ultrasonic and radiographic testing.
  • Field density testing of soils and asphalt.

Our scope of services included installing soil borings, material testing of soils, field inspections and testing of concrete, asphalt, and soils, as well as laboratory analysis of soil samples. Kenall performed geotechnical services for Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) for the Channel Conveyance Improvements Project, located adjacent to Timberlake Estates Subdivision, in Harris County, Texas (Channel Unit K163-00-00, Key Map 368-L). This project focused on improving channel conveyance K163-00-00 to improve drainage in the Timberlake Estates Subdivision. The Channel is approximately 6,300 feet long, stretching from Cypress North Houston downstream to the vicinity of an existing concrete drop structure located 2,100 feet from the confluence of W/K100. The depth of the Channel varies along its length from approximately 4 feet to 20 feet, and retaining walls are included for certain channel sections.

We installed and sampled soil borings to determine soil stratigraphy and groundwater conditions, performed laboratory test in accordance with ASTM methods, and developed geotechnical engineering analyses and construction recommendations for the buildings foundation and associated pavement and detention pond.

Kenall provided geotechnical engineering services to the City of Pasadena to evaluate the stability of the Richey Road detention pond. The evaluation was needed because the site slopes had breached due to heavy lateral earth pressure from the stored sludge.

Our investigation included a visual site inspection, multiple soil borings to evaluate subsurface stratigraphy and groundwater conditions, and the installation of wellpoint control systems to observe water level variations. We performed comprehensive laboratory soils testing. Our geotechnical engineering analyses included analysis of test results, site geological evaluation, total and differential settlement analysis, and slope stability analysis for the existing conditions. We provided recommendations for the reconstruction of slopes with factor of safety, recommendations for de-watering, and general construction recommendations.
